J antennas are weird, just plain spooky to me - you are basically shorting
your coax cable across about 19 inches of copper pipe - dead short ...
I mean, sure it works, but then I think about laying a copper pipe across a car
battery - not sure I want to do that to my transceiver.

That would work great for repeater around 147 Mhz, but not good coverage over the whole band for general use.
